Valentine's Day 2024

Valentine's Day 2023 falls on Monday, February 14. The perfect opportunity to show your loved one how much she or he means to you! :)

Valentine's Day, also known as All Hearts' Day, is a celebration of love and romance that takes place on February 14th of each year. The history of this day is a blend of ancient rituals and Christian saint legends, woven together over the centuries into the modern celebration we know today.

The celebration of Valentine's Day can be traced back to ancient Rome and the Lupercalia festival. Celebrated from February 13th to 15th, Lupercalia was a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture, as well as to Rome's founders, Romulus and Remus. During the festival, priests from the Luperci order performed ritual purifications and sacrifices, and young men ran through the streets of the city, hitting random passersby with goat skins. It was a wild and chaotic festival, a far cry from the love-filled celebrations of today.

Over the centuries, Valentine's Day has evolved into a significant commercial holiday. Today, it is customary to exchange cards, flowers, chocolates, and other gifts between loved ones, and the day is an important time for romantic gestures and celebrations. Although some criticize the commercial nature of the day's celebration, Valentine's Day continues to be a day for expressing love and appreciation, not only between romantic partners, but also between friends and family members.
